Omar Eldarov’s Bust of Professor Mammadamin Afandiyev is a portrait sculpture dedicated to the memory of Professor Mammadamin Afandiyev, one of the distinguished figures of Azerbaijani medical science. Author

Omar Hasan oghlu Eldarov was born on 21 December 1927 in Derbent, Dagestan Autonomous Republic. Between 1941 and 1945, he studied at the Azim Azimzade Art School, and from 1945 to 1951 at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Saint Petersburg. Since 1946, Eldarov has regularly participated in national and international art exhibitions and competitions. He has been a member of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan since 1953. Omar Eldarov’s work occupies a significant place in the development of Azerbaijani monumental sculpture. His monuments adorn cities throughout Azerbaijan and several foreign countries, while many of his sculptures are held in museums around the world. He is also the author of the bust of Heydar Aliyev created directly from life in Nakhchivan, as well as several memorial monuments erected after the statesman's passing. Eldarov was awarded the title of Honored Artist in 1962 and People’s Artist in 1989. His distinctions include the Badge of Honour, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Istiglal Order, the Shohrat Order, the Heydar Aliyev Prize, the Sharaf Order, and the Order of Heydar Aliyev. He served as the first Rector of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, where he educated several generations of distinguished professional artists. From 1995 to 2000, he was a member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and since 2001 he has been a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
